Book Review: Grace by Max Lucado

Max Lucado boos are great for inspiration and to feel good.  I recommend his books for anyone.  I have 12 Max Lucado books, so you know that i like his writing.
This book, Grace, is a good book.  Grace is one of those subjects that i read about often.  This book is a little, "Fluffy" to me.  it didnt have any meat to it.  dont get me wrong it was a good book and i will read it again.  I just felt after reading it that i was missing something from Max this book.
This book covers the subject of grace and Lucado writes in a style that keeps you going.  His chapters are rather short, which is good for readers like me.

My book review of Rudy by Rudy Ruttiger

I have watched the movie 'Rudy' many times and have been inspired to have dreams that are beyond your own ability to get them fulfilled.  I have watched the movie so many times i can even quote it from heart.  It is in fact my favorite movie of all time.
All of a sudden the book version comes out decades later and I had to get my hand on it.
This book: Rudy, is a great book.  It is an easy read and flows well.  This book goes into detail what the movie didnt have time to talk about.  A few highlights: Rudy goes to the Navy and learns many lessons for his life.  One interesting thing I learned about Rudy is he was a boxer at Notre Dame.  That is cool.
This book is very inspirational to me because Rudy was just an 'Average Joe' like me but His God-given dreams came true.  That inspires me to get going and see my dreams fulfilled.
I recommend this book for every person who loves the movie.  You will not be disappointed at all.  I highly recommend it.

Book Review: Tough Guys and Drama Queens.

Once in a while a book comes across my desk that is great for me to read on a personal level.  Then there are books that are great for me to recommend.  Tough Guys and Drama Queens by Mark Gregston is a great book to read and recommend to others.
This book is recommended for parents of elementary age and teenagers.  It is also recommended for Youth pastors, pastors and leaders.  Keep one for your self and read it and then buy more for the parents in your ministry.
Let's face it: Teenagers are strange and who couldnt use a little help with them.  Look no further than this book and it will help you not only survive but thrive through your teens weird years.
If you are a youth leader, your parents need a resource from you: this is thte book to give out.  the parents will thank you.
This book is set up into three sections: Whats so different about the culture, Parenting practices to avoid, and Parenting practices that really work.
This book works because Gregston uses God's principles to parent.  Buy it and you will not regret it

Going Inside For Refreshment

- Long car ride with nothing to drink
John 7:38- Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, 'Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.'"

Acts 3:19- Repent therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
How can you be Refreshed?
 1.    Repent of your sin- nothing makes you more spiritually dehydrated than unrepented sin
 2.    Get into the presence of the Lord Daily.

You might ask, “Isnt the Lord all around us, how do we get into the presence?”  I would say, yes God is all around us.  But we get into the presence of the Lord by getting rid of distractions, getting on our knees, and praying and seeking the face of God.

If you are weary and tired, you need to get into the presence of God.  He will give you living water.

"Pull into the Filling Station"

So many of us run and run and run and the fact is, we are tired.  We think busyness equals godliness.  But here is a fact: You can’t keep running!  At some point you are going to tip over the hurdles that are placed before you.
As I read the Scripture I read about the idea of rest.  Even in the creation account in Genesis, God created the world in 6 days, on the 7th he rested.  Now obviously, God didn’t need the rest, but He rested to show us how important it is to rest.
When was the last time you rested?  Are you too busy?  Today’s Bible passage to focus on is found in Mark 6:30-32
30 The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. 31 Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
32 So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.
There are times that you need to pull over and pull into the filling station and fill up.  There are times that you need to plug into Jesus and recharge the batteries.
·         Spend time with your family
·         Sleep in
·         Choose not to clean the house
·         Read a good book
·         Watch a movie
·         Go for a walk
·         Do some writing
·         Pray
·         Do not work, email, facebook, etc.  rest
·         Do something fun.
What will you do?  For the health of you, your family, your church, your work, your soul, rest.  Jesus said, come to Him who are weary and burdened down and He will give you rest.  Right now if you are tired, run to Jesus and then stop and rest.
